GREYHOUND racing's newest sprint sensation Ferdinand Boy continued his exhilarating form with a dominant victory in Friday night's Group 2 Ballarat Cup Final (450m).
Trained by David Geall, Ferdinand Boy used box eight to perfection to take out the Group 2 feature with the $47,000 first prize seeing his stake-money soar to $163,060.
Running a fast 24.84, Ferdinand Boy, a son of Fernando Bale, defeated Fortuna Bale – who was third to Yozo Bale in last year's Ballarat Cup – while Bound To Succeed ran third.
It was Ferdinand Boy's 19th career win from 32 starts with his Ballarat Cup triumph coming right on the back of his track record breaking victory in the Group 2 Shepparton Cup.
"It's ironic. I didn't think he began that well, but he mustered real hard," a proud Geall said.
"He's a good chaser this dog. It (his ability to muster) did surprise me because we knew all eight dogs were that quick early, and he had to jump.
"He didn't jump that well, but he still mustered ahead of those dogs. It shows he wants to lead at all costs, and if something is in front of him, he just has to go past it. He's a beauty."
Friday night's Ballarat Cup consolation was taken out by dual country cups winner Yozo Bale.
Trained by Correy Grenfell, Yozo Bale, winner of last year's Ballarat Cup, displayed his customary early speed to lead before holding off the fast-finishing Weblec Jet with Do It in third.
A race earlier, in-form sprinter Aston Titan produced a strong performance to claim the $7,000 winner's cheque in the Autumn Classic Grade 5 final (450m).
Prepared by Anthony Azzopardi, Aston Titan defeated Perfect Colour by a length with Shepparton 385m track record holder Paddy's Marvel a further three lengths away third in 25.08.
