Hobby Pups Leave WA Blazer Trail

THE phone hasn't stopped ringing at the Jeff Britton-Angela Langton house after a couple of lightning qualifying trials at Cannington on Wednesday.

THE phone hasn't stopped ringing at the Jeff Britton, Angela Langton household this week after a couple of lightning qualifying trials at Cannington on Wednesday.

Littermates Sunset Spitfire and Sunset Toxic (Mepunga Blazer-Sunset Jessie) scorched their way to victories, ‘Spitfire' by 13 lengths in 29.80 and ‘Toxic' by four lengths in 29.83.

Trainer David Hobby reports Sunset Spitfire had already trialled in track record time at Mandurah in his lead-up to that qualifying trial.

“Great news for Mepunga Blazer,” said Angela of the royally bred son of Barcia Bale and Mepunga Nicky whose first progeny are just starting to hit the racetracks.

“He's getting some great results from just half a dozen litters to the races so far. David (Hobby) had rung a little while ago to say those pups of his were trialling very well.”

Sunset Jessie (Fabregas-Go Jessie's Girl), dam of the Hobby-trained youngsters, was a very fast race bitch which won nine of her 18 starts all at Mandurah over 405m and 490m getting to top grade.

“These pups are showing all the early pace of their mother,” said Hobby.

Mepunga Blazer retired to stud after just 25 race starts for 13 wins and $169,000 in stakes. He won the Group 1 Maturity and ran a 29.41 track record at Albion Park.

Langton is raving about the highly promising Mepunga Blazer litter from Mepunga Rosie which includes Molly Blazer.

“Brilliant early pace,” is how Angela described Molly Blazer who runs for Ashley McDowell in a heat of the Maturity at The Meadows on Saturday night.

“We have a litter out of Mepunga Mia showing great potential as well,” she said.

Angela reports a number of straws had recently been sent to New Zealand.

“We can collect three vials each week from him,” she said.

“The response has been great and now with David's hot youngsters, it is hotting up.”
