SA Oaks Winner Primed For Queensland Futurity Tilt

SOUTH Australian Oaks winner Don't Tell Lies will head back home after she contests the Group 2 Orson Allen At Stud Queensland Futurity series (520m) which starts at Albion Park on Thursday night.

The Fernando Bale and Quest For Glory bitch, raced by a syndicate headed by Cameron Betts and trained in South Australia by Lauren Harris, has drawn ideally in box two for the second of two heats.

She has been in Queensland for the past couple of weeks under the care of premier trainer Tony Brett.

Don't Tell Lies won the Group 3 SA Oaks back in September leading throughout and since then has also won the Leigh Rogers, a race restricted to Grade 6 dogs.

“We looked around for some targets for her and decided the Futurity at Albion Park was a good option because the track appears very similar to Angle Park and this bitch absolutely loves Angle Park,” Harris said.

“We had also looked at heading towards the Laurels at Sandown.”

Don't Tell lies trialled 30.17 for Brett at her first look at Albion Park but then was disappointing when sixth to Summer's Queen there on November 29.

“She looked very new to the track, crashed left early and seemed to get lost,” said Lauren.

“Tony is very happy with her and said she has settled in so well. If she improves her line out of the boxes we expect her to race well.

“The two box gives her that opportunity on Thursday night.”

Harris said she and the owners would assess the bitch's immediate future after the Futurity series.

“There are some very good races coming up for her at home and we also like the look of the Launceston Cup early in the New Year,” she said.

“The South Australian Sprint Championship will be run in January and that looks a good race for her.

“She loves Angle Park. Her win in the Leigh Rogers was very good and it is a race that has been won by some very good greyhounds.

“Dogs like Fly For Trix and Tauwitchere have both won the race in the past.”

Don't Tell Lies has raced 19 times for seven wins and earned $44,000 in stakes.

She comes up against some smart local gallopers including Champagne Jazzy, Cincinnati Lana and unbeaten Tungsten Miss.

Elite Weapon from the WA kennel of Shayne Williams has drawn the rails in the heat.

Group 3 Townsville Cup winner Dulceria runs in the opening Futurity heat against star Northern Rivers bitch Miss Integrity, the promising Stop Watch, classy Spring Kono and another WA visitor in Wise Dorper.
