New Zealand Sprint Star Out Of Nationals

Leading Canterbury trainer Dave Fahey was gutted when having to scratch Opawa Superstar from the August 27 Australian Nationals Sprint final.

LEADING Canterbury trainer Dave Fahey was gutted when having to scratch kennel star Opawa Superstar from the National Sprint Championship at Wentworth Park next week.

He said, "I galloped him yesterday and when checking him over this morning I discovered he had pain in a hip support. That left me with no option but to scratch him from Sydney.

"He will spell for at least a month."

"It was a tremendous privilege to be able to represent New Zealand. We are extremely disappointed that will not happen now," advised Fahey.

Opawa Superstar, who Fahey trains in partnership with his wife Jean, enjoyed an outstanding season in the recently completed 2021/22 Kiwi season.

He notched up 23 wins, 11 minor placings and $172,227 in stake winnings from his 35 race day outings, which included three group race victories.
