Oh Boy! Ennis Eyes Silver Chief, Phoenix Double

JAMIE Ennis is savouring a night out at The Meadows for the next couple of weekends with his kennel star Amron Boy which has $1.1 million in targets.

The son of Zambora Brockie and Miami Fernando goes into Saturday night's Group 1 Silver Chief Final (525m) off a near record 29.45 heat win last weekend, the fastest of the $100,000-to-the-winner series.

Then he will back up a week later for a $1 million pay day on offer at The Meadows in The Phoenix (525m) representing slot holder SEN.

But, victory in either or both of those famous races could also seal a lucrative stud career for Amron Boy.

Ennis' wife Brooke trains the dog and she and Jamie also have litter brother Amron Dan in the Silver Chief. Amron Boy is drawn in the three and Amron Dan in the four.

“Amron Boy is the fastest in the kennel,” said Jamie.

“He is two and a half now and his next six months should be his career best.

“He's been through his education and he will be hitting his peak.”

Amron Boy has started 31 times for 13 wins and nine placings earning $132,000, but he has always shown incredible potential but has also been luckless in feature races to date.

He has been second in the G2 Flying Amy Classic and the Sandown Shootout, and a finalist in the G1 Maturity, G1 Topgun and now the Silver Chief and The Phoenix.

On Melbourne Cup night, he finished a narrow and arguably luckless second to Wow She's Fast in the Match Race Showdown.

“He will be very hard to beat on Saturday,” said Jamie.

“The one (Landlyn Bale) and two (Rejuvenate) will probably lead him out, but that should give Amron Boy a nice sit on them going into the back straight.

“The two obviously has huge potential and for him to run that time last week (29.47) was amazing for such a young and inexperienced dog.

“He's a very exciting dog.”

Ennis says Amron Boy's desperation to get to the rails has been his undoing in the past but he sees his three box draw perfect on Saturday night.

“But, our bloke loves The Meadows,” he said.

“He has run fast times at Sandown (29.07 best), but he handles the bends at The Meadows better. The track really suits him.

Of The Phoenix, Ennis says the box draw will virtually seal the race.

“It will all come down to the box draw,” he said.

“It is going to be a fantastic race.”

Ennis gives Queensland's early paced runner Tyanna Belle a great chance of stealing The Phoenix.

“How good is Queensland racing going to be in the immediate future,” said Ennis.

“They have just announced another big prizemoney increase and with the new track soon to be started, Queensland will be a leader in greyhound racing.”

Of Amron Boy's potential stud career, to take over from his sire Zambora Brockie, Ennis admits his dog has everything going for him for such a career but needs a race like the Silver Chief or The Phoenix to seal it.

He is also out of a daughter of Fernando Bale which makes him even more attractive to broodbitch owners as a future stud dog.

“After The Phoenix, we will give him a short break over Christmas,” he said.

Of litter and kennelmate Amron Dan, Jamie says the dog will be running on strongly at the finish.
