Perfect Draw Has Impact On Track For Championship

IMPACT, unbeaten in nine starts at Capalaba, ran the quickest of three Qld heats of the National Straight Track Championships on Sunday afternoon.

IMPACT, unbeaten in nine starts at Capalaba, ran the quickest of three Queensland heats of the National Straight Track Championships on Sunday, then drew perfectly in box eight for next weekend's state final.

The son of Fabregas-Velocity Willow scored by three lengths in 19.53 in his heat for breeder-owner Steve Williams and trainer Kevin Ellis.

The National Final will be run at Capalaba on December 19 worth $25,000 to the winner.

Ellis was ecstatic to draw the eight in the final.

“He is the perfect straight track dog,” said Ellis.

“Like all those old great stars from 20 or 30 years ago. They come out good, then work their way to the centre of the track. He absolutely loves it up Capalaba.

“And he came out better today than he normally does. The two (What A Debacle) laid on him a few times early, but he handled it OK.

“I would really not have cared what box he drew for the final. But, the eight is perfect for him.”

Already the winner of the Bob Vernon Maiden and the Capalaba Cup up the straight, Impact was dominant in winning over Point To Point and Champagne Jazzy, his 20th win in 31 starts to date.

Terry Priest's Capalaba champ Magical Trav (Fernando Bale-Cyndie's Magic) bounced back to his best winning the second heat in 19.69 beating Ready To Rumble and Ferocity.

Magical Trav has won 23 of his 39 starts and 22 of those have been at Capalaba.

Darren Russell's Deck Fifty Two (Barcia Bale-Mitchie Madam) made yet another Capalaba final after winning his heat in 19.62 beating Born To Run and Davey Fawner.

It was his 16th win in 38 starts.

Queensland Final (in box draw order): 1 Born To Run, 2 Davey Fawner, 3 Deck Fifty Two, 4 Point To Point, 5 Champagne Jazzy, 6 Ready To Rubble, 7 Magical Trav, 8 Impact: Res: 9 Ferocity, 10 Bogie Fury.

Meanwhile, MichelleLill's exciting youngster Olsen Street (Fabregas-Karma Connie) was brilliant in beating Fibrillation in 17.42 winning the NSW State Ffinal at Richmond on Saturday.

It was only the fourth race start for the Lill kennel for Olsen Street and his third win.

Michelle admitted Olsen Street was originally only the kennels' second stringer for the Straight Track Championships behind star sprinter More Sauce.

“We trialled More Sauce up Richmond and he equalled the track record,” she said. “But he pulled up with a sore pin. We then decided to keep him for the Gosford Cup.”

Michelle is now faced with the problem of getting a Capalaba trial for Olsen Street in preparation for the National final.

“We have a couple of options,” she said.

“We have friends like Terry Priest and Jimmy Chapman up there who we could send him to for the trial. We are likely to take him to Appin for a trial first. Appin has the drag lure up the centre of the track like Capalaba.

“But, with the confusion about the borders, we are not certain what is happening. At this stage Queensland is likely to be open on December 17.”

Michelle said Olsen Street had thrived since joining her kennel in September.

“He's getting stronger and he ran home in 10.50 on Saturday and that is humming,” she said.

VICTORIA'S finalists will be the Sean Lithgow-trained Dream Wizard who downed Ha Ha Magoo from the Des Douch kennel to win the Healesville final on Sunday running 19.28 and scoring narrowly.

Dream Wizard (Walk Hard-Gotham Queen) is a marvel having raced 70 times for 28 wins and earned $86,000.

THE South Australian final will be run at Murray Bridge on Tuesday.
