Raw Ability Pup On National Derby Trail

NORTHERN Rivers leviathan Robert Cooke is a tad biased when it comes to stud dogs but that bias comes from a hands-on knowledge.

NORTHERN Rivers leviathan Robert Cooke is a tad biased when it comes to stud dogs but that bias comes from a hands-on knowledge.

Cooke is the flag bearer for the progeny of Raw Ability (Barcia Bale-Bugatti Flyer by Bit Chili) the boom young stud dog whose first offspring to hit the racetracks are the talk of the town.

Robert Cooke knows better than anyone what that means because he bred one of the very first litters by Raw Ability, from his bitch Cashpot, and the result is a litter of potential superstars.

They include Cash View and Cash Stack.

Cash View ran 29.76 when winning the Dave Brett Memorial Maiden final at Albion Park and then made the final of the G2 Queensland Derby … as just an inexperienced baby.

Cash Stack ran third in the Dave Brett Memorial and also made the Derby final.

It was the sort of debut to racing Cooke expected from the sons of Raw Ability.

Cooke heads to Wentworth Park on Wednesday night with Cash View, the star Raw Ability youngster looking down the barrel of a Group 1 National Derby campaign.

Cooke knows Raw Ability almost as well as his trainer Anthony Azzopardi. He and Anthony Azzopardi, Raw Ability's trainer, have been the greatest of friends for ages.

Whenever Azzopardi sends his Group stars to Albion Park for feature race campaigns, Cooke is entrusted with them. He gets to know all the ins and outs of the dogs.

Cash View is out of Cashpot a daughter of Azzopardi's G1 National Sprint winner Smooth Fancy.

There's no doubting Anthony Azzopardi and partner Kylee Osborne put the pressure right on themselves when naming a dog Raw Ability.

But he lived right up to their expectation in a 46-start career with 22 wins and $260,000 in stakes.

He won the Adelaide Cup and Paws Of Thunder at G1 level and made the finalist of the Topgun, Melbourne Cup, Australian Cup and Temlee at that level. He was certainly the real deal.

He is also from the same direct damline as Chica Destacarda the G1 National Sprint winner who has been a broodbitch goldmine via the deeds of Blue Moon Rising, Poco Dorado, Veloce Nero and Two Times Twice.

Robert Cooke likes Raw Ability so much he has since mated his G1 National Futurity winner Cash In Motion, a litter sister to Cashpot, to the dog and got two dogs and three bitches.

And he has since mated Cash Talks, a virtual sister to Cashpot and Cash In Motion she being by Smooth Fancy and from a daughter of Teddy's Jackpot, and Our Magnate the dam of Smooth Act (13 wins).

That is faith in Raw Ability.

Raw Ability certainly did win over Cooke during his kennel stays when racing at Albion Park.

But, Robert Cooke is not the only one with an admiration of Raw Ability as his list of broodbitch matings proves.

Among his mates is Who Told Lindylou who has produced a litter of six dogs and two bitches in her mating last year to him.

Everyone will know Who Told Lindylou (26 wins) is the dam of superstar Simon Told Helen and his late litter brother Who Told Stevie.

Add to that, other mates have been Fay's Magic (17 wins) the dam of classy All Hands Off (by Raw Ability's sire Barcia Bale).

Strongbeth, a litter sister to Zambora Brockie, has twice been mated to Raw Ability.

Champion Whiskey Riot's litter sister Eleven Eleven, a half sister to MDC winner Mystic Riot, is another mate for Raw Ability.

And Pindari Express' litter sister, Bedazzled, too has been to him.

Raw Ability is producing winners at a rate of almost 20 percent winners to runners. It is as good as it gets and augurs well for his future stud success.

He is an absolute MUST for daughters of champion sire Fernando Bale.
