Whatever I Say To Spice Up Fireball

ASTUTE Cranbourne trainer Jim Redenbach is adamant we’ll see the best of his progressive stayer Whatever I Say in her next preparation.

ASTUTE Cranbourne trainer Jim Redenbach is adamant we'll see the best of his progressive stayer Whatever I Say next preparation.

But that's not to say he doesn't think the promising daughter of My Redeemer can win Saturday night's Group 3 Destini Lodge Fireball (725m) at The Meadows.

"She'll probably have three of four more runs this time in before I give her a good break," Redenbach said.

"And when she returns from that is when I think we'll see the absolute best of her as a stayer."

THE MEADOWS FIELD AND FORM

Whatever I Say goes into Saturday night's Group 3 finale after just 17 career starts, her first staying assignment at start eight back in May in a heat of the Group 1 Sandown Cup.

"I've always been one to play the animal and do what's best for them," Redenbach offered.

"Early on this bitch was getting knocked around in sprints and if that goes on too long they lose their confidence so I made the decision to step her up.

"But that's not to say she couldn't run time over 500. She won at Sandown one day in 29.40 with a 10.45 run home so she's always shown she'd get further.

"In a lot of ways it's the same situation I was in with Shimaguni years ago. She won 17 of her first 23 for me and had her first distance run very early on.

"She was an unbelievable chaser but when they are telling you they need to go up in distance there's no point holding them back.

"This bitch has handled the rise in distance very well and pulls up great from her runs. One thing about my dogs is that they are well conditioned."

Whatever I Say has been installed a $4.50 equal second favourite for Saturday night's $25,000-to-the-winner final where she'll exit trap five.

The seven-time winner staved off Hank The Hustler to land her heat in 42.92, running a first sectional record of 4.82 to set up the all-the-way victory.

"I would have liked her closer to the fence but the main thing is that she comes out cleanly and finds the front," Redenbach said.

"She's always been a good beginner and to win on Saturday she'll obviously need to lead again."

The remaining heat last Saturday night was annexed by the Ray Henness-trained I'm Easy Boys in 43.03, the son of My Bro Fabio $6 in betting for the final from his box two draw.

Favourite for the final is the Jeff Britton-trained Hank The Hustler at $3.20 while Five Star, which downed Hank The Hustler in June's Group 3 Speed Star, is on the next line of markets at $4.50.

If Whatever I Say can salute in Saturday night's Fireball Final it will continue the outstanding start at stud being enjoyed by Melbourne Cup winner My Redeemer.

His very early stock is already responsible for over 250 race wins at a fantastic strike-rate upwards of 20 percent.
