Chaker Secures A Maitland Gold Cup Mottza

MUCH traveled galloper Mottza has made a one act affair of Thursday's Group 2 Maitland Gold Cup Final, winning in dashing style for the Chaker family.

MUCH traveled galloper Mottza has made a one act affair of Thursday night's Group 2 Maitland Gold Cup Final (450m).

A recent acquisition to the Cranebrook kennels of Pat and Jackson Chaker, the mother and son training team had the son of Fernando Bale tuned to the minute for the $40,000 to-the-winner decider, beginning brilliantly to record an all-the-way 25.08 success.

Now a winner at 30 of his 71 starts, Mottza, a rising four year old son of Fernando Bale and Cavendish Flyer, has raced just about everywhere.

After beginning his career in Victoria, he then served a great stint in Queensland before transferring to WA to enjoy a hugely successful time of it with John Iwanyk.

And now calling Western Sydney home, after Thursday night's brilliant Maitland Cup victory, one would imagine the grand sprinter won't be relocating again anytime soon.

Going around at monster odds of 33/1 for the red hot finale, the flashy white and brindle chaser gave nothing else a look in from his box four draw.

Finishing a gallant runner-up was Ebby Infrared 2 ½ lengths away while Turbo Thomas did a huge job to run third after running into plenty of bother in the run.

Race favourite La Grand Quality began well from the inside draw but found bother soon after and was put out of play.

But all the plaudits were with the winner and an elated Jackson Chaker who has been singing the praises of the grand old sprinter from the moment he walked into his kennels three weeks ago.

"I feel like a million bucks – speechless," Chaker beamed straight after the race.

"The family's won group races before but this is the first one that I've really been involved with. I want to thank John Iwanyk for sending the dog over in great shape, we had a plan and it came off. It's great."

Leaving no stone unturned in his quest for Maitland Cup Gold, Chaker says a trial at the venue on Saturday went a long way to securing victory.

"I came up on Saturday morning with him and gave him a drag around, you need to always look for those one percenters and I've got no doubt it played a big part tonight," Chaker added.

"I really thought he was up to winning the race. I knew he'd get a lot out of last week's heat run – and he did."

Chaker was also full of praise for Mottza's owner Jeff Schrull, a long time supporter of the family's successful Cranebrook setup.

"He's a great owner to have on board, a big supporter – Jeff's been with us for over 10 years and we can't thank him enough," Chaker said.

"What a night – even without the crowd I won't forget it anytime soon. I'm stoked."
