Exciting Prospect Makes City Debut For New Kennel

NEED A Margarita, who gave French Martini's track record a shake winning at The Gardens, makes her Wentworth Park debut on Saturday night.

NEED A Margarita, who gave big race winner French Martini's track record a shake when she won a maiden race at Ladbrokes Gardens last month, makes her eagerly awaited Wentworth Park debut on Saturday night.

When she led throughout in her 19 lengths romp at The Gardens on August 25, Need A Margarita covered the 515m in 29.25, virtually unheard of for a maiden puppy and just .29sec outside French Martini's record.

Her owner Roxanne Farrell trained Need A Margarita for that win at The Gardens but when she tackles Saturday night's NSW GBOTA Welcome Stakes she will be in the care of Forbes trainer Jack Smith.

FIELDS AND FORM WENTWORTH PARK SATURDAY NIGHT

Smith, of Feral Franky, Jungle Deuce and Miss Ezmae fame, said: “I have had Need A Margarita for only a couple of weeks.

“She has settled in well and in a trial I gave her at Wentworth Park she clocked 30.09 for the 520m.

“In my opinion though we will see the best of Need A Margarita when she goes over a bit more ground.”

While Need A Margarita led all the way at The Gardens, she is not endowed with brilliant early speed although she will be a hot favourite on Saturday night.

Her fifth grade opposition does not look strong and she will exit box eight, the draw she had in her 29.25 The Gardens victory.

Total Glamour was the biggest “street corner tip” in weeks before finishing third at her WP debut last month and returns to headquarters in Saturday night's Ladbroke It! Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

Since finishing third from box one, beaten two lengths at WP on August 16, Total Glamour has had four starts at Dubbo over 516m for two wins and a second.

Trainer Leighton Winter said: “The reason everyone was tipping her at her first Wenty start was because she trialled 29.89 there.

“She looks well drawn in box two on Saturday night.”

Although Total Glamour took a moderate 29.90 to win at Dubbo from box four on September 16, the run was good.

The greyhound in box five veered left at the jump and slightly hampered Winter's bitch.

An interesting clash looms in Saturday's 520m fifth grade MDC City Qualifiers Stakes, with Charlm Dancer, a winner of four races at WP, taking on boom Victorian bitch Common Step.

Charlm Dancer came from second early to record her best WP time of 29.84 when she won from box eight on September 13.

Common Step has had six wins and two seconds from just nine starts in Victoria and trainer Anthony Azzopardi naturally has a good opinion of her.

“I gave Common Step a look at WP in a trial on Tuesday night and she went nice,” Azzopardi said.

“Although Charlm Dancer ran 29.84 in her last Wenty win I think my bitch would be capable of running that time with a clear run.

“Common Step has box six but she should handle it okay.

“She runs straight when she leaves the boxes although she will be looking for the fence when she reaches the first turn.”

Return Mac, who ran the race of his life when runner-up to Mortified _ with Palawa King third _ at WP last Saturday, could turn the tables on Mortified in Saturday's top grade Ladbrokes Mates Mode Stakes, 520m.

Last week, Return Mac disputed the early lead with Mortified but was narrowly beaten to the first bend by that greyhound and when that happened he ran off the track.

After the race Return Mac's trainer Shayne Stiff said: “He only runs off when he gets pressured like that on his outside, but if left alone he hardly shifts out.”

On Saturday Return Mac has box one and Mortified in box seven, will have to get around the speedy Fascinate Mel, in box three, in the charge to the first corner.

Return Mac is generally considered to be a wide runner but his record from box one, his draw on Saturday, is outstanding.

Return Mac has worn the red rug to victory in seven of 13 appearances, while also being placed on four occasions.
