POUND for pound, Lochinvar Marlow has been more than throwing his weight around on the stud scene since 2012, his progeny winning over 7000 races and a whopping $12 million in prizemoney.

POUND for pound, Lochinvar Marlow has been more than throwing his weight around on the stud scene since 2012, his progeny winning over 7000 races and a whopping $12 million in prizemoney.

Winner of the 2010 Group 1 Paws Of Thunder at Wentworth Park, a year that also saw him land the Group 3 Christmas Gift and earn a berth in the Group 1 Topgun at The Meadows, Lochinvar Marlow retired with 18 wins from just 37 starts, before embarking on what's proven to be a most successful career at stud for owner Kevin Gordon.

As a stud prospect, Lochinvar Marlow had all the ingredients breeders crave.

Lacking absolutely nothing in pedigree with champions on both sides of the family, the sleek black chaser boasted an outstanding record on the track, had a wonderful temperament and wasn't overtaxed either, with injury relegating him to just the 37 starts.

He's a son of the mighty Bombastic Shiraz who needs no introduction, and is out of top racer turned producer Sensation Lee, winner of 29 races during her racing days, including four track records.

Sensation Lee is a daughter of the great Brett Lee out of Grigorieva, a top producer in her own right.

Bred in the purple and from an outstanding family, Sensation Lee has also produced chasers the quality of Godsend, who has gone on to make a name for himself at stud in Ireland, and Lochinvar Vogue, a group winning stayer who's progeny has won over 200 races and half-a-million dollars.

From a family with these outstanding credentials, on top of a stellar racing career, Lochinvar Marlow was always destined to make a big impression at stud.

Responsible for a raft of quality gallopers, one that quickly springs to mind is former South Australian star Ernie Bung Arrow, winner of the Group 1 Adelaide Cup at Angle Park back in 2013.

Overall a winner at 21 of his 24 starts and $168,000 in prizemoney, including another two group 3 victories at Angle Park, Ernie Bung Arrow earned a spot in the 2013 Topgun at The Meadows won by Dyna Nalin.

Incidentally, Ernie Bung Arrow's dam Slipper's Tonic failed to win a race in her seven start career, before going on to produce the hugely successful litter to Lochinvar Marlow, in total winning 67 races and $256,000 in stakes.

Some other quality chasers Lochinvar Marlow has produced in recent years include the likes of Are Ate (38 wins), Queen Esther (27 wins), Big Bad Bob (29 wins), Marlow Brown (32 wins), Don't Kid Me (28 wins), Bearville Azza (20 wins), Sir Duggie (44 wins) and Southern Lights (33 wins).

This list goes on and on, and a full rundown of Marlow's top progeny can be delved into further by clicking here.

Marlow's outstanding results are made even more remarkable by the fact he hasn't received the highest echelon of broods during his stud career.

Breeders with bitches stemming back to Where's Pedro, Hallucinate and Bond have shown a keen interest in using Lochinvar Marlow at stud, as have breeders with bitches sired by sons of Brett Lee, producing a double cross of Brett Lee on the fourth line – a tried and tested formula for breeding top class stock.

At a time where the stud scene is as competitive as ever, prospective breeders would be crazy not to consider Lochinvar Marlow for any future matings.

With straws still available at Sires On Ice, his service fee stands at an ultra-competitive $1,100 – sensational value for money given his breeding and already proven credentials at stud.
