New Group 1 Winner After Positive Swab Result

KENNY The Brute is the new winner of the 2021 Group 1 Bold Trease (715m) after Gypsy Wyong lost the race last week due to a positive swab.

The decision, which comes almost 12 months on from the staging of the race, follows a post-race blood sample taken from Gypsy Wyong after the Group 1 feature which detected Carprofen.

An out of competition pre-race urine sample and post-race urine sample both returned negative results.

Greyhound Racing Victoria (GRV) stewards charged Gypsy Wyong's trainer Andrea Dailly for producing a greyhound with a prohibited substance, while Tom Dailly, was charged with administering the Carprofen tablets (a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory) in the lead up to the race.

Andrea Dailly pleaded guilty while Tom Dailly pleaded not guilty.

In evidence tendered, it was agreed that Gypsy Wyong was administered Carprofen tablets in the lead up to the Bold Trease.

"It is also an admitted fact that Mr Dailly gave Gypsy Wyong a 100 mg dose of carprofen in the form of two 50 mg tablets on 21 November 2021, five days before the race," the statement read.

In assessing penalty, the Victorian Racing Tribunal took into consideration the Daillys' excellent records and co-operative nature in regards to the matter.

"There is no suggestion of any prior offending of any substance or relevance by either Mr or Mrs Dailly, they have excellent records," the VRT decision read.

"They are probably this country's biggest and most successful greyhound trainers, running a very large operation.

"We appreciate that the inevitable result of what has occurred is the disqualification of the bitch, Gypsy Wyong, and the amendment of the placings, all of this in a Group 1 event. 

"However, the responsibility of trainers great and small is to comply with the rules. 

"It was Mrs Dailly who instructed Mr Dailly to give Gypsy Wyong the carprofen medication."

 Andrea Dailly was fined $1500 for her two charges while Tom Dailly was fined $1000.

Furthermore, Gypsy Wyong was disqualified from the Bold Trease with Kenny The Brute the new winner.

The race carried $105,000-to-the-winner.
