State Against State: Origin Returns In 2021

RACING Queensland will shell out a cool $150,000 during the TAB Origin Greyhound Series which will be staged at Albion Park on June 17.

The popular series, which proved hugely successful in 2019, returns this year after being a casualty of COVID-19 in 2020.

In 2019, it was the Terry Hill-led NSW contingent that claimed the shield following Feral Franky's dazzling match-race victory over local Infrared Star.

Three events are again slated for decision to determine this year's Origin winner, the series exhibiting the unmistakable state against state tribalism we see so evidently in Rugby League.

The first event will be the Origin Sprint over 520 metres followed by the Origin Distance over 710 metres.

Both events will see four New South Wales and Queensland greyhounds contest the events which carry $40,000-to-the-winner.

The third event is the Origin Match Race (520m) comprising one greyhound from each state and carries $25,000-to-the-winner.

On Friday May 28, both Racing Queensland and Greyhound Racing NSW will announce their respective Origin Squads decided on by a panel of experts.

From those squads, final teams will be determined on Friday, June 11 before the box draws are conducted on Monday, June 14.

And while $150,000 will be distributed in prizemoney across the three major events, two support races will also be staged.

The Regional Origin Challenge (520m) will be run and won as will an Emerging Origin Stars Series (520m).

Both events carry purses of $15,000.
