Unconventional Pedigree Pays Dividends For Black

ROBYNNE Black admits to being an unconventional person and is well aware some even say “oh my God, she is mad”.

At Capalaba on Sunday, Robynne will run Imposing Blade in the final of the Bob Vernon Maiden and a brief look at the dog's pedigree will convince anyone she is indeed unconventional … maybe even a bit mad.

Imposing Blade was impressive in leading throughout to win his heat of the Bob Vernon last Sunday in 20.33 at the juicy odds of $23.

His pedigree is amazing.

His sire Amadeus (Go Wild Teddy-Imposing In Pink) raced just twice for a third over 395m at Albion Park and a last. He was retired when injury after injury put paid to what Robynne knew was a “very fast dog”.

Imposing Blade's mother is Reward (Premier Fantasy-Imposing Jett) and she was unraced. Her refusal to go into a catching pen got worse and worse and Robynne gave up on her.

“Reward broke in the best of the litter,” said Robynne. “Her brother, Bossin It, won the Group 3 Cranbourne Classic and was a finalist in the Group 3 South Australian Derby.”

But, what is “unconventional” about the pedigree of Imposing Blade is that his sire Amadeus and his grandmother Imposing Jet are both by Go Wild Teddy.

Amadeus's second mother is Vivacity and Reward's second mother is Compliant. Vivacity and Compliant are Token Prince-Must Obey, full sisters from different litters.

“I purposely did the mating that way,” said Robynne. “My main aim was to bring the Travelling Girl damline into both sides of the pedigree.”

Legend broodbitch, Travelling Girl, is the third mother of Must Obey.

“When I decided on the mating, I decided I was just going to take the gamble,” said Robynne.

Of Imposing Blade's task in the Bob Vernon final, Robynne is realistic.

“There are some very fast young dogs in the final,” she said.

“But, he went well in the heat and he goes great up the straight.”

She is already planning a second mating for Reward.

“I've got a straw to Just The Best which I'm thinking of using on her,” said Robynne.

While neither sire nor dam of Imposing Blade were winners, he does have a claim to fame. His second mother Imposing Jett won 22 races and $54,000 and her boast was success in the Group 2 Qld Futurity at Albion Park back in 2011.

Robynne has been settled in Morayfield shifting south in March 2020.

“We have eight in the Amadeus-Reward litter and we are working on them now to get to the track,” she said. “They have ability.”

Imposing Blade proved that on debut at Capalaba last Sunday and just might prove it even further in the Bob Vernon Maiden final this weekend.

Nothing “unconventional” about that.
