Weblec Blazer To Shine Brightly In Adelaide Cup

EXCITING youngster Weblec Blazer, with no Aston Rupee to “annoy” him, looms as a hot hope in the heats of the Group 1 Adelaide Cup (530m) at Angle Park on Thursday night.

Trained by Angela Langton, Weblec Blazer is one of seven Cup heat runners from the Langton-Jeff Britton kennels.

The son of Mepunga Blazer and Weblec Belle had to be content with second to Aston Rupee in the Match Race Challenge series last Thursday night running 30.15 at his debut on the new track at Angle Park.

“He's just a length or two off Aston Rupee but he should be greatly improved by the run on the track last week,” Angela said.

“I would have liked him to draw inside last week to give him a chance of going quicker.”

Weblec Blazer, winner of seven of his 24 starts to date, has drawn box four in his Cup heat and comes up against her partner Jeff Britton's Mr Fix It in the three.

“Mr Fix It is a reliable beginner and I hope he leads and gives Blazer a sit behind him,” Angela said. “He is very strong and I would think he could run Mr Fix It down.”

All Britton/Langton Cup heat runners will be sent by road transport to Adelaide on Thursday and will return first thing the following day.

“They are going to be kennelled with Nev Loechel who has shares in some of them,” Angela added. “Nev will take them to the track and he will be helped by Nathan Wilson to handle them for their Cup heats.”

All of the seven went to Angle Park last week to have a look at the track.

While Weblec Blazer and Weblec Jet were taking on Aston Rupee in the Match Race Challenge, the others were trialled around the new track between races.

The other kennel cup runners are Mepunga Warrior, Keep It Black, Mr Fix It, Do It and Tyler Durden.

“Keep It Black and Tyler Durden went about 30.30 which was the best of those who trialled,” she added.

Keep It Black and Do It have both drawn the rails in their heats.

The Britton/Langton kennel has been in super form in recent months.

“The next six to 12 months should be just as good or even better,” Angela said.

“We have a lot of nice young dogs coming through and some well bred pups on the way.”

Angel reported multiple Group winner Circle Of Dreams has a litter, now 12 months old, by Premier Fantasy about to get ready for education.

“And, we've got a Kc And All straw ready to use on her for her next litter,” she said.

Aston Rupee is already signed and delivered into Friday week's Adelaide Cup following his Match Race Challenge victory last Thursday.
