Zipping Rambo On Trial For Sandown Cup Crack

ZIPPING Rambo has his debut 715m test at Sandown on Thursday night with trainer Mark Delbridge not entirely convinced the dog is a true stayer.

EXCITING staying prospect Zipping Rambo has his debut 715m test at Sandown on Thursday night with trainer Mark Delbridge not entirely convinced the dog is a true stayer.

The son of Mister Twister and Zipping Maggie has been in devastating form winning five of his past seven starts including a 33.66 win at Sandown Park five runs back in just a length off Dyna Double One's track record.

He has drawn the rails for his 715m debut in a 4/5th Grade but comes up against recent Group 1 Galaxy winner Zack Monelli.

Zipping Rambo, bought from the Hallinan family for $25,000 by Gary Black back in August last year, comes into the race off a 650m win at Warrnambool.

“I wanted to test him over 650 metres first before going 700 metres in town and he seemed to get a little tired at the finish,” said Mark.

“But the long straights at Warrnambool can be a test for any dog especially a stayer.”

Black, who owned Delbridge's property at Balliang and sold it on 25 years ago, has bought a number of Hallinan-bred dogs with success.

Zipping Rambo has won 14 of 27 starts and $65,000.

“Gee, Zack Monelli is going to be hard to beat,” said Mark.

“But, if our bloke is to be a chance in the Sandown Cup, he has to take on these dogs.”

Delbridge will be busy at Sandown Park with Fortuna Bay and Gracelyn Bale in the heats of the Group 1 Sapphire Crown, and Jarick Bale in a heat of the Group 1 Harrison-Dawson.

“Both bitches are a chance although both are probably drawn on the wrong side of the track,” said Mark.

“Shima Classic will be hard to beat in Fortuna Bale's heat. Gracelyn Bale has the rails and likes to drift off the fence early.”

But Delbridge gives Jarick Bale a great chance in his Harrison-Dawson heat.

“The red is perfect for him,” he said. “I'm tipping he will be as good as Christo Bale by the time his career ends.”

Christo Bale has won 20 races and $197,000 for the Delbridge kennel.

“Box draws have killed Jarick Bale to date,” said Mark.

“But, I've got a big wrap on the dog and the rails is just fine for him on Thursday night.”

Delbridge had a tip for punters.

“I've got a hot young dog called Talbingo Bale who could be better than anything we've ever had,” he said.

Talbingo Bale is by David Bale-Dyna Zesty the dam a daughter of legend Xylia Allen.

He has raced twice for Meadows wins in 29.96 on debut and 29.87 the latest last Saturday night.

“The 29.87 was only his second 500 metre run,” said Mark. “He could really be something special … fingers crossed.”

Talbingo Bale will run again at The Meadows on Saturday night.

“Then we will start looking around for some nice aged races for him,” said Mark.
