10 Straight: Fire Legend Chalks Up Win 50

VETERAN Fire Legend landed his 50th race success when he stormed to a Masters win over 400m at Maitland on Monday night.

VETERAN Fire Legend landed his 50th race success when he stormed to a Masters win over 400m at Maitland on Monday night.

It was his 10th straight success, the 13th of his past 14 and 16th of his past 19.

Remarkable.

The son of Fernando Bale and Tick Away Fire started $1.12 favourite for owner-trainer Mark Moroney when winning by two and a quarter lengths over Haas and Highly Dangerous.

Now the track star is putting pressure on Moroney to keep the record in tact.

“I've nominated him for a Masters at The Gardens on Friday and that might be his last chance to get a 500 metre race under his belt before the Masters Meteor during the Million Dollar Chase series,” said Mark.

“Yes, the pressure is on now to keep him winning.

“I'd like to keep his record like it is.”

Fire Legend recently had his DNA collected for a future stud career but Moroney said he would not undertake the semen collection until he had run through the Masters Meteor.

Fire Legend finished third to Angry Blizzard in the Masters Meteor at Wentworth Park back on April 27 after leading into the straight.

He has been beaten only once since that start.

In 112 starts, he has won 50, been second 19 times and third 14 times for stakes of $250,000.

“There were excuses for him in that Masters Meteor,” said Mark.

“He was suffering from wrist problems, but we've put him on a product called 4Cyte which has fixed that.

“The 10 straight is starting to put a lot of pressure on me to keep him winning.

“I'm hoping he can get a run at The Gardens on Friday because it might be his last chance to get a 500 metre race before the Masters series.”
