Air Marshall Smashes Angle Park Sprint Record

PROLIFIC winning chaser Air Marshall added to his career stats when smashing the Angle Park 388m track record on Monday night.

PROLIFIC winner Air Marshall added to his career stats when smashing the Angle Park 388m track record on Monday night.

He ran 21.81 beating kennelmate Bold Mirage by three lengths for owner-trainer Ray Murray.

The son of Banjo Boy-Aunty Chopper took his record to 21 wins and 12 placings from just 39 career starts with the victory.

“He's in wonderful form,” said Ray.

“The previous Thursday night he won over 515 metres at Angle Park in a best of the night 29.70.

“I always knew he had the ability to break a track record because he can reel off brilliant sectionals. Monday night he put them all together.”

Air Marshal was given to Ray by one of his owners who whelped a two-pup litter and asked Ray to rear “one for one”.

“My mate picked the white and black dog, and I grabbed this black bloke,” said Ray, “He's been a really good dog for me all his career.”

Murray admits the track record took him by surprise despite him believing the dog had such ability.

“Yes, he got me by surprise, but I always knew he had that sort of ability,” he said.

“In fact, I felt a bit sad for my other dog in the race who tried his heart out and was beaten only two and three-quarter lengths.”

Air Marshall got his name from a famous bucking bull on the US rodeo circuit.

Murray has seven dogs in his kennel and admits he is not quite sure what to do now with Air Marshall.

Only three runs back the dog chased home Major Major when third in the Group 3 Gawler Gold Cup.
