A brilliant beginning was the catalyst for Aussie Secret to win Thursday night's Group 1 Ladbrokes Hobart Thousand Final (461m).

The Jason Thompson-trained son of Bernardo began with gusto from box one to get out into clear air before shifting up the track in trademark fashion.

In the run home the recent Melbourne Cup finalist staved off a fast finishing Do It while Ferdinand Boy ran third, securing an all Victorian trifecta in Tasmania's only group 1 event and Australia's oldest classic.

The victory handed Thompson a second Hobart Thousand title after landing the race in 2019 with superstar Hooked On Scotch in a race record 25.49.

Winner at 33 of his 63 career starts with stake earnings now over $250,000, Aussie Secret is most deserving of a group race triumph on his resume.

Just an hour before Aussie Secret's group 1 heroics in Hobart, owner-breeder Robert Bean guided Got The Torque – a brother to Aussie Secret – to an impressive victory at Sandown Park.

The litter has proven to be prolific winners for Bean now boasting 88 race wins for close to $500,000 in stake earnings.

Aussie Secret was prepared for his Hobart Thousand tilt by local trainer Mick Stringer.

Back in 2008, Stringer finished first and second in the race with Little Spaniard and Topline Doovee.

Stringer also presided over the preparations of Adelaide Cup hero Do It in the lead-up to the Hobart Thousand, finishing a mighty second in the final for Jeff Britton.

Aussie Secret's winning time was 25.87.

The victory continued the sensational start at stud sire Bernardo is enjoying, picking up a flurry of winners right around the country.
