Bright Future Awaits For Eric Thomson Winner

ERIC Thomson series winner, Golden Bear, will not rest on his laurels with trainer Adam McIntosh mapping out an audacious plan.

ERIC Thomson series winner, Golden Bear, will not rest on his laurels.

Golden Bear (Zambora Brockie-Golden Joy) led throughout to win the time-honoured Eric Thomson Memorial (520m) at Albion Park on Thursday night in a best-of-the-night 29.85 for his fourth straight win and fourth in five starts.

He downed Hoshino by five lengths with Cheers For Bella in third.

But, breeder and trainer Adam McIntosh has decided to back him up in Sunday's heats of the Capalaba Young Guns series (366m).

He has drawn the seven and comes up against Tom Tzouvelis' classy Scarlatti.

Golden Bear is raced by the Triple Bypass Syndicate that includes Adam, his schoolmate Scott Gould and Scott's brother Michael.

Trainer Adam McIntosh landed the Eric Thomson Final at Albion Park on Thursday night

“The 29.85 really surprised me,” said Adam today.

“It is the first time I've trained a dog to go under 30 seconds at Albion Park.”

Of the quick back-up to Capalaba on Sunday, he admits it is something he rarely does.

“He has pulled up OK from Thursday night's run,” said Adam.

“I've taken him there for a slip and one trial from the boxes but that was some time ago.

“I've watched the replays of those against him and the eight dog, Royal Billy, does come to the left.

“But, this is a 37 kilo dog and he doesn't move out of the way for anything.”

The Eric Thomson had previously been a maiden series, but two years ago it was changed to include Novice class dogs.
