Britton's Stern Warning Ahead Of Flying Amy

A BRILLIANT 5.48 first section in an Albion Park trial by Trooper Tears contains a stern warning from trainer Rob Britton ahead of the Flying Amy.

A BRILLIANT first section of 5.48 in his debut-look trial at Albion Park on Sunday by Group 3 Launching Pad winner Trooper Tears contains a stern warning from trainer Rob Britton as the star readies for Thursday night's heats of the Group 2 Flying Amy Classic (520m).

Trooper Tears (Goodesy-Freaky Tears) was one of a host of Queensland Winter Carnival hopefuls to trial on Sunday but his 29.80 was the quickest of those visitors.

FIELDS ALBION PARK THURSDAY

Britton warned Trooper Tears does not always show that sort of pace.

“I'll give you an example,” he said.

“The first run I gave him at Sandown he went 5.05 first section but in his next two he went 5.25.

“He will begin one in three.”

Trooper Tears heads to the $150,000-to-the-winner Flying Amy Classic (520m) series off 16 starts for 10 wins and $218,000 in the bank.

His litter brother, Trapper Tears which chased him home in the Launching Pad, trialled 30.18 on Sunday.

“He is not a trial dog though,” said Rob.

“His first trial at Sandown he went 30.03 but the next week he came out and won in 29.17.

“But, he is a dog who needs a few looks at a track.”

Britton is amazed at the quality of the Flying Amy Classic heats.

“It is a year you did not want to come,” he joked.

“Gee those fields are tough.

“But, it is very good for racing.”

Britton said Trooper Tears is best suited from a wider draw because he is a dog which likes to run straight from the boxes to the first turn.

The Britton kennel is virtually all heading to Queensland for the carnival.

Last Friday night's Group 1 Sandown Cup runner-up and recent G1 WA Galaxy winner, First Picked, is on her way north.

She will run in Wednesday's heats of the Group 3 Dashing Corsair (710m).

“It is not ideal,” said Rob of that campaign.

“But, she will get a good look at the track and we are really here for the Group 1 Queensland Cup.”

The Queensland Cup heats will be run on June 29 with the $175,000-to-thye-winner final on July 7.

First Picked, Dirt Farmer, Wheel And Go and a number of others from the Britton kennel arrive this week.

First Picked (Benali-Erelda Bale) chased home Korda, trained by Rob's brother Jeff, in Friday night's Sandown Cup.

“I was pretty dirty about that,” joked Rob.

Seven heats of the Flying Amy and four of the G3 Carnival Chase (600m) will be run on Thursday night with the other race on the program a Brisbane Cup Prelude.

As expected, the cream of youngsters from throughout the country will be at Albion Park on Thursday night for the Classic heats. And a number of them are drawn to perfection .

Victa Damian has the rails in his heat, Custard Monelli the same in his, and Professor Snitch also will come off the rails.

Rob Britton will be happy with Trooper Tears' box seven draw.

The Carnival Chase series has brought together some of the best middle distance dogs in the country as well with boom Victorian Hector Frawley among them, but that grand campaigner Jarick Bale also there.

Top stayer Zipping Orlando is among the heat runners as is Palawa King, Wheel And Go, All Spritzed Up  etc.
