Fields Released For Group 1 Perth Cup & Galaxy

SHIMA Shine’s shock elimination from the Group 2 Ballarat Cup series has seen the two-time group 1 winner journey to WA for a tilt at the Group 1 Perth Cup.

SHIMA Shine's shock elimination from the Group 2 Ballarat Cup series has seen the two-time group 1 winner journey to WA for a tilt at the Group 1 Perth Cup (520m).

Seven heats of the $150,000-to-the-winner showpiece will be staged at Cannington this Saturday night with the race headlined by the appearance of star Victorian sprinter's Tiggerlong Tonk and Shima Shine.

The unfortunate clash with the Golden Easter Egg has robbed the event of plenty of star power, led of course by hometown hero Tommy Shelby which will instead take his place in Saturday night's Egg finale at Wentworth Park.

Heat one on Saturday night will see Correy Grenfell's 15-time Group race hero Tiggerlong Tonk start a short priced favourite from box four.

A close up second at his Cannington debut last Saturday, Tiggerlong Tonk will be striving to hand Grenfell a second Perth Cup title after Orson Allen landed the event in spectacular fashion in 2019.

The second qualifier will see Topgun hero Shima Shine go around all-the-rage for trainer Andrea Dailly who is also no stranger to Perth Cup success, winning the race way back in 2005 with Sun Hero.

It's been a tale of varying fortunes recently for Shima Shine after suffering shock defeats in heats of the Golden Easter Egg and Ballarat Cup following his dazzling Group 2 Horsham Cup triumph.

That's resulted in the star son of Barcia Bale making the trip to Perth with kennelmate Sunset Boursbki which will take her place in heat three of the Group 1 Galaxy (715m) from box one.

The staying feature carries a cool $100,000 to winning connections and while the race is headlined by Zack Monelli and Sunset Bourbski, a handful of other talented half-milers make for a keenly contested series.

One of the more interesting runners in the series is Victorian Rostered Off which takes his place in heat one from box eight.

The son of Aston Dee Bee is in the hands of Paul Stuart for his WA campaign, the Nambeelup conditioner knowing a thing or two about what it takes to win a Galaxy.

Stuart put the polish on Rockstar Patriot to win the two most recent Galaxy finals, while in 2012 and 2013 he guided his Hall of Fame bitch Miata to back-to-back victories in the Group 1 staying feature.
