Jasper The Jet Returns For Ipswich Cup Task

JASPER The Jet is on the comeback trail from a cracked tibia but John Catton believes he is primed to win a heat of the Ipswich Cup on Thursday night.

BRILLIANT sprinter Jasper The Jet is on the comeback trail from a cracked tibia but owner-trainer John Catton believes he is primed to win a heat of the Ipswich Cup (520m) on Thursday night.

The son of Fernando Bale and Visualize It has drawn box four in his heat but has not started since he finished second to Cooper Dooper at Albion Park on September 3.

FIELDS AND FORM FOR IPSWICH THURSDAY

“He cracked a tibia and needed a good break,” said Catton.

“But, he's been trialling well in preparation for this race and I expect him to be very hard to beat.”

Jasper The Jet has raced 42 times for 14 wins and 17 placings earning $56,000 but he has always shown more ability than even that record suggests.

“He's always been a dog with trouble,” said Catton.

“Right back to when he tore an Achilles tendon when he was young that put him out for seven months.

“He probably should not have raced again after that but the vet who worked on the tendon with stem cell treatment did a marvelous job to get him right.”

Jasper The Jet takes on some smart sprinters like Magical Hope, Cyclone Arrow and Smokin' Wits.

“Magical Hope is not a quick beginner and that should help my bloke because she has drawn immediately inside him in the three,” said Catton.

“But Cyclone Arrow and Smokin' Wits are both drawn well and they look the ones to beat for Jasper.”

Catton says Jasper The Jet will lack nothing in fitness for the heat.
“He's done the work and has been trialling very well up there at Ipswich in preparation for this race,” he said.

“He's had an easy week this week to keep him fresh so he will begin.”

The club will be rejoicing the fact it has attracted eight quality heats of the Cup.
