Kia Kaha Eclipses Race Record In Golden Chase

WARREN Nicholls, buoyed with Kia Kaha's win in the Golden Chase Sprint at Ipswich, has a plethora of riches coming up in the future.

WARREN Nicholls, buoyed with Kia Kaha's race record win in the Golden Chase Sprint (431m) at Ipswich on Saturday night, has a plethora of riches coming up in the future for the bitch.

The daughter of Zipping Garth-Daniel's Loss ran a flashing 24.78 to win the Golden Chase, formerly the Ipswich Auction Sprint, scoring by four and a quarter of lengths over Another Level and Johnny Koala.

The Sally Evans-owned Kia Kaha took her record to 23 starts for 11 wins and 10 placings for stakes of $70,000.

“I was very keen on her chances especially when she drew so well in the final,” said Warren.

“She had a bit on them for experience and that proved to be in her favour in the final.”

But Nicholls says the bitch has a huge number of feature races coming up in the next few months that could suit her.

“Her main target is the 500 metre Auction series,” said Nicholls.

“But, there is the Rising Star at Ipswich, the Young Guns and Winter Carnival races at Albion Park, and we could even head north for the Townsville Cup.

“The corner start of the Townsville Cup would be perfect for her.

“She loves racing and even though she could be running for the next 10 weeks in a row, she is the sort of dog who can cope with that.

“She works at home as hard as she races, so she may as well be racing.”

He reported the bitch had pulled up so well on Sunday morning the Rising Star heats at Ipswich next Saturday night are on her radar.

“She went super, didn't she,” said Warren of the victory in the Golden Chase Sprint.

He also made mentioned of the potential of the Mick Johnston-trained Comedy Act who finished fourth in the final on Saturday night.

“What a super dog he could be,” said Warren.

“But he was done no favours with his box draw and he went into the race off a handful of starts.”
