Crawford's Memorable Flying Amy Classic Win

GREG Stella gave Jeff Crawford a degree of confidence going into Thursday night's Flying Amy Classic final (520m) at Albion Park with Kiss And Spin.

FORM student and leading Queensland trainer Greg Stella gave Jeff Crawford a degree of confidence going into Thursday night's Group 3 Flying Amy Classic final (520m) at Albion Park with Kiss And Spin.

Stella had predicted Kiss And Spin (KC And All-Reshuffle) was perfectly boxed in the one for the final and declared her a great chance at odds of $19 the day after the heats.

Jeff Crawford, who had bred, owns and trains Kiss And Spin, didn't need to be told twice so he quickly helped himself to some of those odds.

Last night, Kiss And Spin ran 29.89 to give Crawford his first group victory as a trainer when she downed Bobby The Brute by almost three lengths with Oski in third.

All three placegetters are sired by US stud dog KC And All, the placegetters being littermates out of She's Scandalous.

“My wife Jane and I have owned a Group 1 winner, but this is our first Group victory as a trainer,” said Crawford.

This was despite the “advice” of Crawford's friends who believed he was taking on a mammoth task by entering the heats the previous week with the looming presence of current Albion Park sprint star Oh Mickey.

“Everything worked out great for us,” said Jeff.

“She was a reserve for the heats but got a start and made the final after finishing second to Oski in her heat coming off an unfavourable wide draw.”

Crawford said Kiss And Spin received a tick of approval from Steve Keep at Grafton who educated the bitch.

“Steve was the first on the phone this morning to congratulate us,” said Crawford.

“He told me she ‘had a motor'.”

Immediate plans are uncertain for Kiss And Spin.

“The Brisbane Cup appears a bridge too far for her,” said Jeff.

“But there is a nice aged race coming up in a month's time at Albion Park that could suit her. She's desperate for the inside.”

The bitch showed promise from the first time Crawford put her into training and after some excellent early trials, she came down with corona virus and had to miss the Dave Brett Memorial; series.

She was third in the final of the Bob Vernon Maiden series at Capalaba and then was placed twice at Novice level.

Crawford has a six month old litter from dam Reshuffle by Aston Dee Bee.
