LEGEND stayer, Destini Fireball, has died at the ripe old age of 14.

“We were beginning to think he really was made of steel,” said the dog's breeders, owners and trainers Norm and Janis Rinaldi.

“Not only did he have his brilliant racing career, he was a great companion to us in his and our retirements.”

Destini  Fireball (Where's Pedro-Greys Destiny) was the supreme stayer of his time.

He raced 65 times for 25 wins and 18 placings earning $631,000 during career from December 2011, to his retirement in May 2014 … a staggering amount considering the prizemoney levels then compared to today.

He won the G1 Sale Cup, G1 Zoom Top, twice won the G1 Super Stayers, the G1 Albion Park Gold Cup, the G2 AMW Distance Championship.

Destini Fireball retired to the life of luxury

He was placed or a finalist in four other Group finals.

He was named Australian and Victorian greyhound of the year in 2013.

Destini Fireball, reared in Queensland by Tony and Jane Apap, was bred by the Rinaldis from the US-bred bitch Greys Destiny they bought cheaply during a holiday in the States.

The Where's Pedro-Grey's Destiny litter contained 12 pups, 11 of them winners, of 159 races and $1.2 million.

Destini Fireball did have a stud career but mated only a handful of bitches.

However, he was very successful with his best being Miss Innings (14 wins, $118,000)  who was third in the G1 Sapphire Crown.

He also sired Wynburn Cutie (Hobart TR, finalist G1 Sapphire Crown), Yogi Mac (finalist G1 Hobart 1000), Wynburn Lucifer (finalist G1 National Distance).
