Lose Your Cool Set For Origin Acid Test

How a few extra slick winning runs can change your mind.

On Sunday, Lose Your Cool (Fabregas-Frosty Fantasy) comes out of box seven to take on the Straight Of Origin (366m) as part of the Queensland contingent for an epic clash.

FIELDS AND FORM CAPALABA SUNDAY

And, in sight is a winner's purse of $40,000.

Lose Your Cool, which turned two only in January, has raced just seven times, all at Capalaba, for six wins and at his latest outing, on May 31, he won in 19.58 beating Origin rival Valhalla.

Straight Of Origin (in box draw order); 1 Shall Not, 2 Slingshot Rusty, 3 Valhalla, 4 Commands Respect, 5 Phantom Jasper, 6 Coonamble Kid, 7 Lose Your Cool, 8 Panama Canal.

The Origin was done on a preferential box draw with trainers able to select between rails or wide draws.

Amazingly, only Darren Sultana nominated Shall Not as a rails runner so he automatically went into the one.

All seven others went for a wide draw so the box draw was done for each of the other seven boxes using the banjo.

Jeff Crawford was happy with the seven for Lose Your Cool.

“That will suit him perfectly,” said Jeff.

“It is not a race we had on the radar until a few weeks ago, but we are, of course, very happy to be chasing a $40,000 pay day.

“My wife, Jane, came home from Capalaba one Sunday and said he was being considered as a chance of making the Origin. I thought that was a bit much but then he ran some very fast times and … here we are.”

Four of Lose Your Cool's six wins have come from a wide box draw and each has been in slick time, Lose Your Cool breaking 19.90 in each of those six wins.

“The seven is great for him,” said Jeff. “He likes to stay the right hand side of the cable.

“Yes, he is the least experienced of the eight but he's got a lot of upside to him and a lot of improvement left in him.

“His mother was only a speedster, but she ran 22.50 around Albion Park and is a litter sister to Leeroy Rogue who still holds the Capalaba track record.”

Crawford has circle plans for Lose Your Cool for the future.

“He has trialled very fast on the circle and eventually he will be switched to that,” said Jeff.

“But for the moment he is very good in a straight line and has got some serious pace.

“There might be a question mark about him over 500 metres though.”

Shall Not will obviously start a raging hot favourite.

He has been beaten just once in 12 starts up the straight and that was at his debut at Richmond.

His near record 17.21 when off the rails at Richmond when off the rails in April has been franked by his only appearance at Capalaba, a 19.53 two weeks ago at his latest outing.

“Shall Not is the obvious one to beat,” said Jeff.

“His run to win at Capalaba a couple of weeks ago was fabulous.”
