Nangar Lucy Blows Peter Mosman Opal Rivals Away

A blistering start by Nangar Lucy has delivered another Group 1 success for master trainer Dennis Barnes.

The daughter of Fernando Bale took her record to five wins from seven starts when claiming the $75,000-to-the-winner Peter Mosman Opal at Wentworth Park on Saturday.

Nangar Lucy blasted out at box rise running as slashing 5.36 first split, opening the field up before powering all the way to the line, closing off in 11.50 seconds to run an overall time of 29.59, winning the feature age classic by five lengths.

"She's always had ability and when she nails the start she's very hard to beat," Barnes said.

"I think as she's gets a little bit older she might be getting a little bit better.

"You're always waiting for them to take the next step and she's done it on the right night.

"These races don't come along every day. We're just happy to get in it and this is a bonus, a big bonus."

Nangar Lucy ($5) defeated Jack Smith's Bella Una ($3.30) with another 2-1/4 lengths back to Minnie Finn's outsider Zipping Foxy ($41) in third.

The $2.90 favourite Miss McGraw, raced by Barnes' daughter Sandra Spratt, wasn't the best to begin and her chances were gone when she ran off the track at the first turn before finishing well back.

Zipping Rousey ($4.80) did a good job to manage fourth after blowing the start.
