Nangar Nellie Leads Home Barnes Clean Sweep

UNBEATEN Nangar Nellie confirmed she’s got the racing world at her feet with a slashing victory in the Bill & Peg Miller Memorial at Dubbo.

UNBEATEN youngster Nangar Nellie confirmed she's got the greyhound racing world at her feet with a slashing victory in the Bill & Peg Miller Memorial (516m) at Dubbo on Saturday night.

The regally bred daughter of Fernando Bale and Fancy Dancer extended the glowing start to her career to four straight wins with an all-the-way success in the $20,000-to-the-winner feature.

Running a slashing 29.43, only marginally slower than the 29.39 She's A Pearl posted to win The Brother Fox, Nangar Nellie led home a trifecta for Dennis and Ann Barnes with Nangar Lucy, a sister to the winner, and the highly touted Nangar Larry, filling the minors.

Miss McGraw – a sister to Nangar Larry – finished fourth in the finale meaning the first four across the line were bred from the Barnes' Cudal base.

Underlying the potency of the breeding line, Nangar Nellie and Nangar Lucy (by Fernando Bale) are out of hugely successful brood Fancy Dancer, while Nangar Larry and Miss McGraw are out of Nangar Diva, a daughter of Fancy Dancer.

For the Barnes family the memorable result carried added significance with Ann the daughter of Bill and Peg Miller, whom the showpiece event on Dubbo's night of night's is named after.

The event has become renowned for unearthing some special types and on the strength of this year's finale it promises to be no different.

Leading into Saturday night's decider the Greyhound Recorder reported that significant offers had been refused for Nangar Larry following his devastating heat win.

And while he has a huge future, so does the winner, which has been simply awesome to launch her career.

After winning on debut at The Gardens in 29.68, she returned a week later to score in 30.10, but while the time was slow the manner of the win was emphatic, overcoming loads of trouble to still find a way to score.

She won when winning seemed forlorn which only the real good ones do.

On a huge night of racing out of Dubbo,  the Zipping Garth Mega Maiden Final (318m) went the way of Secret Treasure in a pulsating finish for Paul and Pam Braddon.

The son of Feral Franky finished second in his heat to Spring Gold which he turned the tables on in the $10,000-to-the-winner decider by the narrowest of margins.

Meanwhile, The Feral Franky At Stud Future Stars (400m) produced an upset result with Fusion Angel scoring for Wes McDonald at odds of 25/1.

In a race where the favourites were never really a factor, Fusion Angel defeated Swift Kevin by half-a-length to scoop the $10,000 first prize.
