Queensland Flame On The Agenda For Tyanna Belle

DOUG and Heather Gladman, are the first to admit they are not getting any younger, but they still have the "flame" burning to chase Group races.

VETERAN racing couple, Queenslanders Doug and Heather Gladman, are the first to admit they are not getting any younger, but they still have the “flame” burning to chase Group races.

And with that their target, they run their record breaking sprinter Tyanna Belle in a 4th Grade event over 520 metres at Albion Park on Thursday night.

The superbly bred daughter of Cosmic Rumble-Shabeky has been their flag bearer since she made her track debut back in November 2020.

FIELDS AND FORM ALBION PARK THURSDAY NIGHT

Her appearance on Thursday night is to get a 520m race under her belt for a tilt at the heats of the Queensland Flame (520m) at Albion Park next week.

Tyanna Belle made the Queensland Flame final last year and Doug and Heather are adamant their bitch is deserving of a Group or Listed victory in a race career that has had many highlights.

She is the Albion Park 395m track record holder and won the Thunder over that distance last year.

In 70 starts, she has won 25 and been placed 18 times for stakes of $92,000 and also includes finals berths in the Rising Stars and Ipswich Futurity.

Tyanna Belle is on the comeback trail after “tearing a hole in her groin” when getting ready for the Winter Carnival back in June.

“She's back to her old self now,” said Doug of her two wins over 395m at Albion Park in her past three starts, the latest on Monday night.

“It is not in my nature to back up a dog from Monday to Thursday, but we had to get a 520m into her before the heats of the Flame next week,” said Doug.

“She ran in the final last year and was flattened at the start.

“She is a bitch with great early pace but for the first stride from the boxes she is vulnerable.

“And, she is only 25 kilos.”

Doug and Heather fancy the bitch's chances on Thursday night.

“Her win on Monday night was pretty good,” he said.

‘”They put plenty on Hopeful Bill to beat her but she began great.”

While she is the veteran of 70 starts to date, and Doug and Heather have a breeding career in mind for her, they believe she still has plenty of racing left.

“She is such a keen bitch on race nights,” said Doug.

“She is so keen going to the boxes that I have to use a harness on her to control her.

“In fact, she has pulled me and two other handlers, over in the past.

“But, take her off the track and she is a lamb.

“She would make a bloody good husky.”

Doug and Heather have spent their entire lives in racing, Doug having been a highly successful thoroughbred trainer in NSW as a younger man before moving to Queensland and venturing into greyhound racing.

“We love this bitch and she has a great following,” he said.

“Even my local doctor sent me an email a little while ago when she was spelling. He had not seen her racing and wanted to know if everything was alright with her.”
