Raging Ralston Ready To Star In Classic

TOP trainer Ted Medhurst takes an embarrassment of riches into Thursday's Young Star Classic Final (461m) at Hobart, lining up five of the eight runners.

TASMANIA's leading trainer Ted Medhurst takes an embarrassment of riches into Thursday night's Jared Davies Carpentry & Maintenance Young Star Classic Final (461m) at Hobart, lining up five of the eight runners.

The Hall of Fame-inductee is no stranger to success in the Young Star Classic, having etched his name on the prestigious trophy on six occasions, his first precisely 20 years ago (1999) with top flight sprinter Kialdu Blue.

Leading the Mangalore-based trainer's chances is Raging Ralston, the boom sprinter chasing an eleventh win from 12 starts when he exits box two as the $2.30 favourite on Thursday.

"Raging Ralston is a very talented chaser," Medhurst said.

"Not many pups can go through the grades as quickly as this dog has – he loves Hobart, couldn't be happier with him."

The son of My Bro Fabio is undefeated over the Hobart 461-metre trip, winning six from six.

Improving all the time, the up and coming Tassie star boasts a sizzling 25.64 personal best time at the circuit.

"The field for the Young Star Classic is very strong although Raging Ralston does hold a class edge on them," stated Medhurst.

Medhurst gave an insight into his five runners in the lead up to the race.

"Silver Man (box 1) is a very handy dog and holds his own; two starts back he produced a career best run of 25.83."

Connected is another star on the rise, prepared by Medhurst for owner Debbie Cannan.

"Connected has come to hand quite well … three starts back the dog got his chance to breakthrough at Hobart and has gone on with it.

"Stanley Gordon struck severe interference at Devonport at his last start and took a tumble, I've given the dog time to get over it and heading into this I couldn't be more pleased with him.

"Mr. Camacho is in form – his last start run at Launceston was another leap forward."
