Record Run Earns Phantom Bonnie Egg Tilt

PHANTOM Bonnie may have earned herself a crack at the upcoming Golden Easter Egg after she broke the Casino 411m track record on Thursday.

BRILLIANT speedster Phantom Bonnie may have earned herself a crack at the up-coming Group 1 Golden Easter Egg after she broke the Casino 411m track record on Thursday.

The daughter of Fernando Bale-Clover Cottage ran 22.86 to eclipse the previous 22.88 benchmark held by Northern Rivers war horse Cosmic Bonus since July 2019.

She blitzed her rivals in a graded heat to score by seven lengths over Pirate's Cut with Bowie Bonus in third.

Breeder and trainer Mal Ross said immediately after the race features like the Group 2 Maitland Cup, but also the Easter Egg, could well be on her radar.

She already has won the Group 3 Casino Cup last year.

“She ran a quicker first section a few months ago than the 8.36 she ran today, but she is going to the line stronger now,” said Ross.

“She will run in the final next week and then I will discuss with Johnny Free where we will go after that.

“The Maitland Cup looks an ideal race for her, but I fancy she will handle Wentworth Park really well and with her pace I would expect her to lead anything for a long way there.”

Phantom Bonnie has now started 20 times for 14 wins and three placings.

Ross played down the track record saying recent rain had made the track fast and in perfect order.

The bitch was never going to lose exploding from box four to set up a huge early lead.
