TRAINER Robin Stocks might find out just how good Rusty The Crow is at Hobart on Thursday night.

There is no doubt the My Bro Fabio sprinter has talent but Stocks remains wary as he tackles one of his toughest tests to date.

Rusty The Crow has put together back-to-back wins at his past two starts, both impressively with winning margins in excess of four lengths.

He has drawn box six in Thursday night's Invitation event, the Gotta Love The Hobart Greyhounds (461m), race seven on the card.

"He is going well but it is a hard race tonight there is no doubt about it," Stocks said.

"He will have to be good to beat them even though he has been travelling good.

"I know he has the ability but he just can't do a thing wrong with a few good ones drawn inside him. It is another step up.

‘They are all good dogs in this so he can't afford to miss it away in a field like this. This race will be a good marker for him; there's no reason he can't win."

The Gary Fahey-trained Sacred Shadow (box one) is also chasing three straight successes, including a last start effort at the same track and distance where she clocked 26.04.

Rusty The Crow has been on a tour of the Apple Isle since the return to racing from the COVID-19 break, winning at Launceston and Devonport before his Hobart assignment this Thursday.

He boasts an imposing record of 10 wins and 11 placings from 32 starts but there are still plenty of boxes Stocks hopes to tick with his talented chaser.

"He just keeps ticking the boxes but I want to see how he goes in the next few runs because I want to test him over a bit of distance," Stocks said.

"A couple of his siblings have won over the 600m so I want to check him out over that."

Stocks has chances across Thursday's card.

Up and comers Bomber Bill and Dave's Not In run in the Leroy Rogue At Stud (461m), Sunbound contests the Crown Lager – Australia's Best (461m) and Hi Sky is in the The Mercury (461m) Stake.

"Hi Sky is a big chance and is going well," Stocks said.

"The pups (Bomber Bill and Dave's Not In) are still learning their trade at the moment but they are better than their record suggests.

"Big dogs take some time to mature sometimes and they are getting some field practice. Both are mad railers so it could be tough."

Thursday's Hobart card kicks off at 7.34pm AEST.
