Tomahawk The Big Improver For Silver Dollars

BREEDER and owner Nathan Trigg has warned punters his highly promising youngster Tomahawk Hayze will improve at Albion Park on Thursday.

BREEDER and owner Nathan Trigg has warned punters his highly promising youngster Tomahawk Hayze will improve greatly when he lines up in the final of the Molly Campbell Silver Dollars (520m) at Albion Park on Thursday night.

This is despite the presence of Jemma Daley's trio of young stars Hara's Skye, Hara's River and Hara's Herbie in the race.

FIELDS AND FORM ALBION PARK THURSDAY NIGHT

The final has already lost Hello Wally out of the eight box and he will be replaced by NSW Group 1 winning bitch Embrace.

Hello Wally was suspended for 28 days for marring.

Silver Dollars (box draw): 1 Hello Mike, 2 Scintillate, 3 Hara's Skye, 4 Hara's River, 5 Hara's Herbie, 6 Laughing Les, 7 Tomahawk Hayze, 8 Hello Wally (scr): Res: 9 Rapid Ripple (scr), 10 Embrace (box 8).

“Our bloke was coming back to racing last week after a month on the sidelines with a shoulder problem,” said Nathan of the Sandra Hunt-trained son of Aston Dee Bee and Merlot Hayze.

“He's drawn great and will be greatly improved for the final.

“The shoulder was not a major concern. We were just being cautious.”

But Trigg is also well aware of the presence of in-form Hara's Skye which beat Tomahawk Hayze by seven lengths in their heat clash last week in 29.82.

“She is absolutely flying and showing a lot of early pace,” said Nathan.

“But, Tomahawk Hayze likes it out wide and will be coming across at the first turn.

“The worry about him and all of the litter is that they find the last 20 metres of a 520 metre race a bit testing.

“We are hoping with racing that strength will come to them.”

Six of the seven in the litter have all won first-up and Nathan is confident the litter will continue to improve with maturity.

Dam Merlot Hayze has a nine-week old litter by Fernando Bale, six dogs and three bitches, which Nathan and wife Tracey have decided to keep.

“Like everyone who breeds a litter, we are thrilled with them,” he said.
