Truvy's Time To Shine In Newcastle Cup

MARTIN Hallinan knows only too well Zipping Truvy will improve greatly when she lines up for the final of the Newcastle Cup at The Gardens on Friday night.

BREEDER and owner Martin Hallinan knows only too well Zipping Truvy will improve greatly when she lines up for the final of the Listed Newcastle Cup (715m) at Ladbrokes Gardens on Friday night.

The daughter of Zulu Zeus and Zipping Abby, a litter sister to the Hallinan-owned, hugely popular stud dog Zipping Garth, was impressive in running down group 1 staying star Here's Tears in her heat win last Friday in 42.08.

“She went into that race well underdone, but it was time for her to go 700 metres and I swayed Rob (Tyler) into putting her in the series,” said Hallinan.

“But, having said that, there will obviously be huge improvement in Here's Tears as well. You could see the way he appeared lost to the track that it was his first look at The Gardens.”

Zipping Truvy has now started 24 times for nine wins and nine placings earning $44,000 but she has suffered from a series of injuries which have halted her race career from time to time.

“I very much like her run in the heat,” said Hallinan.

“You could see how hard she had to work out wide. And, she is a mad railer. I hope she draws over near the rails in the final.”

Zipping Truvy's litter brother Zipping Garth has mated more than 100 bitches during his stud career to date.

“Within the next two weeks I will bring in the first litter of pups by him for education,” said Marty.

“They are out of Tricky Rose which has a very nice litter of dogs racing in Victoria at the moment.”

Marty says he has eight litters by Zipping Garth on his property and has just mated Golden Easter Egg winner Zipping Bailey to him.

“And, I've just put a very, very nice bitch called Zipping Mitzy to him as well,” he said.

“She ran 30.20 at Richmond and 29.50 at Wenty but broke a wrist in a fall. She was very good.”

Marty admits that if Zipping Garth cannot sire quality offspring from the 100 bitches he has mated to date he never will.

“He ran 30.10 at Richmond at his second look at the track,” said Hallinan.

“And, his run home was sensational. I believe he can put strength into his pups.

“Everyone is raving about the look of them. It's a big few months coming up.”
