Wendy To Rock Distance Rivals At The Creek

WENDY Rocks will take another step towards becoming one of the best stayers in the country at Albion Park on Thursday evening.

PREMIER trainer John Dart believes promising young stayer Wendy Rocks has come through the “testing ground” and is ready to develop into one of the star stayers in the land.

The daughter of Sennachie-Eleanor Rascal turned two late in May but has already proven herself among Group class stayers in recent weeks.

She runs out of  box one in a 710m 4th Grade at Albion Park on Thursday night.

FIELDS AND FORM ALBION PARK THURSDAY NIGHT

“I've done with her what I normally do with the top stayers that have come out of our kennel,” said Dart.

“I wanted to test her against the best.

“I think they learn better against the best stayers and I'm confident this has worked with Wendy Rocks.”

She has started eight times over 710m around Albion Park despite being only two.

In those runs she has won the Chairman's Cup, run second in the Group 3 Dashing Corsair and been a finalist in the Group 3 Origin Distance.

“She won in 41.63 at Albion Park three runs back and I doubt any of those against her on Thursday night can run that sort of time,” Dart said.

“She's boxed to lead and if she does, she will go close to that 41.60 again.”

Dart rates Spot On Harper, She's In Clover and Fast Milkman hard to toss.

“They are all seasoned stayers,” he said.

“Spot On Harper is very strong, She's In Clover has been running good races right throughout the recent Winter Carnival, and Fast Milkman in a 710m winner three runs back.”

Immediate plans for Wendy Rocks is to head to Wentworth Park for the NSW National Distance Final, a one-off race this year on August 10, with the grand final at The Meadows.

Dart was high in praise of Racing Queensland and the Brisbane Club's efforts in putting together a Winter Carnival to remember.

“It only proved that Queensland is blowing the other stats out of the water,” he said.

“And the idea of making them run on the track before the heats of the big races was superb.

“Look at the quality of race dog that came north.”
