Chilled Out's Tassie Oaks Boilover

HALL of Fame trainer Ted Medhurst claimed his fourth LGRC Tasmanian Oaks when promising bitch Chilled Out was successful in the time-honoured female classic at Launceston on Monday night.

This year's edition of the $5,000 Tasmanian Oaks fell to a best eight event which saw a strong field face the starter.

Punters kept solid all week with the Ricky Martin-trained She's A Princess, starting from box one, following her brilliant 29.66 victory the week prior.

Jumping from box three as a $26 outsider, Chilled Out received a dream rails run into the first turn as interference occurred, with the daughter of Above All x Wild Cindy bursting clear with a commanding break down the back straight.

Once out in front, she bolted clear by almost eight lengths from Leica Prayer in a very smart 29.79.

Medhurst's fourth Tassie Oaks victory followed previous successes from Kialdu Kate (1994), Emily's Idol (1996) and Demi Cali (2015).

"It's a very satisfying win for everyone involved," Medhurst stated.  

"She had to do everything right from the beginning and was in a real handy spot when trouble came. This bitch is coming together quite well, though there is hopefully more to come – she had experience on her side which was a big help Monday."

Respected local breeder/bookmaker Barry Heawood bred the litter which continues another great association for both Medhurst and Heawood, having prepared both dam, Sultan's Swing, and grand-dam, Prestige Girl, to many victories on the Apple Isle.

Medhurst's strong recent run of success continued at Devonport on Tuesday, with the Mangalore-based trainer landing three winners, the standout, Raging Ralston.

The My Bro Fabio x Broadway Miss galloper won both a heat and the final of the division 3 G.O.T.B.A.T Series to kick off his career at Hobart and was most impressive scoring on Tuesday in 25.59.

"He is still very green but did really well to win his first couple at Hobart," said Medhurst.  

"We brought him up to Devonport last week and Currajong Kid was too good for him on the day but his win on Tuesday was strong coming from behind," the trainer detailed.

Medhurst's other two winners on Tuesday were Stanley Gordon (25.74) and Branwell Lee (25.96).
