Maserati's Engine Purring For Grafton Cup Tilt

TWO-time TAB Million Dollar Chase Consolation winner Zipping Maserati is one of the headline attractions in Sunday's Group 3 Grafton Cup heats.

MARTIN Hallinan reckons he will be happy to settle in at home on Sunday night with a feed of Chinese takeaway and a beer, but he will be locked to the TV as well watching Zipping Maserati take on the heats of the Grafton Cup (450m).

“I will be sending Tyler Ginn up to Grafton with him,” said Marty.

“It will take Tyler 10 hours to get to Grafton from here.

“Tyler has worked for us for the past 15 months and he loves going racing.”

FIELDS AND FORM GRAFTON SUNDAY

Zipping Maserati (Zipping Garth-Zipping Lilly) has drawn box five in the opening Cup heat on Sunday night but Hallinan is tipping a huge improvement in his dog.

He had been finishing on well when third to Starline Express in a top grade at Grafton beaten a length and a half last Sunday.

“He went into that race well underdone,” said Hallinan.

“He knocked the cap on a toe and we had to fix that, so he missed work.

“He went box to box at Wenty in preparation for the race last weekend and I thought his run petered out just a little bitch near the line.

“He blew the start last week and I just hope he can come out a lot better for this.”

Zipping Maserati has won 26 of his 57 starts and earned $223,000 and proved himself a high class performer throughout that career.

“I was very happy with his run last weekend,” said Marty. “It was a special performance considering his fitness level.

“He has improved and if he can come out better, there is a 25.10 in him for sure.”

Marty admits the Selena Zammit-trained Jay Is Jay has him scared.

“He's a fabulous dog and drawn to lead the race,” said Marty.

“If only we can head him early, that will put us right into the race.”

Jay Is Jay had no luck when fifth in a heat of the Rocky Cup last Friday.

Reg Gardoll holds the key to the Cup with Starline Express (Fernando Bale-Spooky Sensation) which has won eight of his 16 starts and led throughout to win that top grade last Sunday beating a field of Cup contenders.
